Cali Diaries: Days 1 – 6
August is like the Sunday of summer. Even though I am semi excited for school to start, I don’t want summer to be over… So I decided to end summer with a bang (A.k.a. California).
Saturday (Day 1) :
Knowing that would would be driving quite a bit I chose to just wear simple grey leggings, an oversized black T-shirt, and a jean jacket. See my post “Lookbook # 2 – Grey Leggings” . We got in our car around 10:30 or 11 & arrived in Vancouver around 4:30. While travelling my sister and I watched the movie “Into The Woods” which, especially for a musical, is actually quite good. We visited my grandparents, who are moving soon so they gave us some things (like an adorable teacup) and had dinner (KFC) at their place, then slept at my uncle’s house.
Sunday (Day 2) :
Like every Sunday we went to church. I, however, did not know that we were going to church, I thought we we’re going to just keep driving, so I did not pack any church appropriate clothes. Luckily my sister let me wear one of her outfits. Check out my lookbook about it which will be posted soon.
After going to my grandparent’s church we went to Wendy’s with my grandparents. We hit the road to continue driving at 2 pm. Around 5:30 we stopped in Seattle to go into Urban Outfitters (for the first time ever) hoping to buy some Quay sunglasses. Unfortunately not a single store in Seattle carried the sunnies that I was looking for. After that we went to Costco to eat but found out it is closed on Sunday’s so we had a picnic in the parking lot. Hitting the road included quite a bit of car singing to the beach boys and Elvis. We drove until nearly 9 and got a hotel. For the next day we had been planning on having breakfast in a restraint that was in a World War 2 airplane bomber, but at the hotel we figured out the closed it down (to make more money). My sister and I had to share a bed… Not something I’m used to. She kept petting my face during the night and coming closer to me so I’d have to keep pushing her away.
Monday (Day 3) :
By 7 am we were on the road again and we stayed on the road until about 1. At that point we got out and went to “Th Vortex”/”The House of Mystery” for a 45 minute tour/show which was interesting but not for my eight year old brother. At 1:47 we were back on the road continuing on our way to California. For a late lunch, we ate at a drive-in called Sonic. It was a nice place, great idea, but I probably wouldn’t go back. It’s was 9:30ish pm when we got a hotel and ate dinner.
Tuesday (Day 4) :
We got up a little after 7 and had breakfast at the free continental breakfast. I wouldn’t normally call it breakfast though because it was just a donut and some apple juice. By 9 we were on the road for our last little bit of driving before ariving in LA. We arrived just in time for the free dinner that our hotel serves Monday to Thursday. That night our dinner was rice, chicken, and more yummy stuff. I was actually really surprised by how good the food was.
Wednesday (Day 5) :
We woke up at 6 to try to leave at 7:15. With three girls in our family, I’m not sure why we thought that was possible. We caught the 7:45 shuttle to Disneyland and spent the day there till six. At Disneyland we went on a ton of rides but I just wanted to shout out this one girl who was working the safari tour ride; she was so funny, I was laughing the whole time, & she just went above and beyond & I know my family really appreciated having her as our safari boat leader. I just wanted to put that in so that if any Dinseyland workers (or any workers anywhere) are reading this they can know that some people really do appreciate what they do.
During dinner (chicken burgers) we found out that the pound took away our dog (for the time being) because she was barking – someone has been going into our yard, when our dog watcher’s aren’t there, and has been taking off her bark control collar. So that sucked.
At 9pm we went back to the park to watch the Mickey Mouse Fantasmic Water show. The show was good but the seating/standing was not good at all. To be on the ground at the front you have to pay (I think I heard) $90, and if you don’t pay that then it’s just first come first serve with standing. But I guess if you’re like 7ft tall then it’s no big deal. After that we just moved forwards a bit (and sat down) to watch the fireworks which were very well done.
Thursday (Day 6) :
When it comes to food, My hotel keeps surprising me. I am so impressed with the quality of the food, and that they give new/different meals every day for breakfast and dinner. This has to be my favourite hotel, food wise. If you ever go to LA California, I strongly suggest you get a room at the Hilton Homewood Suite.
Since we woke up later, we caught the 9:15 shuttle to Disney, this time exploring the adventure park side of the place. While in Bug’s world my mom ran into one of her old university friends so we talked with them and went to the 4D show of Its Tough To Be A Bug. Afterwards we went our separate ways, making plans to meet at Flo’s at 2:30. One of the things we did during the time in between was go see the Aladdin musical. Let me just say that it was really really really good! I loved it. Oh and Aladdin had very nice abs, so that was also nice .
